Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children or young people, although it can occur at any age.
Type 1 diabetes often occurs suddenly and may have the following symptoms:

Wounds that heal slowly
repeated infections
Visual disturbances
Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body's immune system destroys pancreatic beta cells - the cells that create insulin. As a result, the body produces too little insulin or none.
A person with type 1 diabetes manage their insulin by one of the following ways:
Insulin pen
Insulin Pump
Injections with a syringe
The treatment recommended by a doctor with a healthy diet, regular physical activity and frequent blood glucose testing are important in the treatment of type 1 diabetes.
